Concrete Flooring

Concrete flooring falls into 2 categories:

Pre-cast concrete

This method of underfloor heating has been developed to work with the modular building industry.

Underfloor heating mats containing sacrificial mesh and a pipework matrix are prefabricated offsite and are then encapsulated in precast concrete planks which are then delivered to site and then connected to the primary water supply.

This enables large parts of the underfloor heating construction to be done away from the main building site, allowing greater flexibility and onsite speed of construction.

In-situ Concrete

Laying underfloor heating within a concrete slab has become an increasingly popular method of installation for underfloor heating particularly in larger commercial properties, e.g schools and hospitals.

Mathewson have developed a method of working which allows the benefits of underfloor heating to be achieved without the relatively expensive sand and cement/flowing screed which is needed to overlay the insulation.

Another benefit of this method is the fact that the UFH is installed in the early stages of the construction, removing the need to ‘sterilise’ large areas of the building while other trades are working as the building approaches completion.
